ONE-MAKE RALLY SERIES | PRIZE FOR THE 2018 PEUGEOT 208 RALLY CUP WINNER
PEUGEOT SPORT-run single-make series have been a feature of European rallying for decades and this season sees the brand pursue its quest to help talented young drivers come to the fore by providing the winner of the 2018 PEUGEOT 208 Rally Cup with a factory drive in 2019. Thanks to synergies within Groupe PSA, the prize for this year’s 208 Rally Cup champion will effectively be a competitive programme in the 2019 French Rally Championship behind the wheel of the group’s latest R5 challenger, the brand new C3R5.

  • PEUGEOT SPORT’s one-make rallying competitions have long sought to reveal talented young drivers by providing them with the opportunity to take part in a competitive and instructive environment in a two-wheel drive car. Stars like Sébastien Loeb, Kris Meeke, Craig Breen and Stéphane Lefebvre all cut their teethin PEUGEOT SPORT-organised series en route to flying CITROEN RACING’s colours in the World Rally Championship.

  • This year again, the 208 Rally Cup stands out as one of the most exciting and rewarding competitions around for amateur drivers. The combination of the world-renowned PEUGEOT 208R2, the best-selling car in its class across the globe, the variety of the gravel and asphalt surfaces visited in the course of the season and a calendar of seven rounds at French championship level makes the series the ideal arena for revealing genuine driving ability. Teams like Saintéloc Racing, Sébastien Loeb Racing, CHL Sport Auto, PH Sport, Pit Stop and Easy Rally have already confirmed their involvement, while an international field of 19 drivers from France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium, Finland, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa has signed up for the season’s opener, the Rallye Terre de Causses, in southwest France, on March 30.

  • Thanks to synergies within Groupe PSA’s Motorsport Department, the 2018 208 Rally Cup winner – on the condition that he or she is aged under 27 (entered in the U23 or U27 class) – will earn a drive in the new four-wheel drive CITROËN C3R5 which packs the very latest innovations and ideas developed by the department’s experienced engineers and drivers.

  • For young drivers looking to make a name for themselves and climb the rallying ladder, the prospect of being part of a programme that pools the expertise of the two makes clearly stands out as a valuable advantage. Indeed, the reward for the winner of the 2018 208 Rally Cup (U23 or U27) will be a programme for 2019 in one of the most potent R5 cars around in the colours of CITROËN RACING.

Bruno FAMIN (Director, PEUGEOT SPORT):
“PEUGEOT SPORT’s customer competition programmes date back some 40 years. Having seen generations of rally drivers pass through its ranks, the ‘Volant PEUGEOT’ trophy – which today takes the form of the 208 Rally Cup – continues to stand out as a benchmark amongst the single-make series organised in Europe. Not only is it extremely competitive but it is also affordable and based on a reliable car. We have always viewed this as the best way to provide young drivers with a stepping stone to higher levels. This year is no exception because the reward for the 2018 208 Rally Cup winner will be an opportunity to benefit from Groupe PSA’s operational quality and experience of top-flight competition. I believe that’s a prize worth fighting for!”

Jean-Marc FINOT (Director, PSA Motorsport):
“PSA Motorsport has long given upcoming drivers a chance to showcase their skills in cars made by our Group, with the career of Sébastien Loeb standing out as a first class example. We have a commitment to spotting talented young drivers and providing them with very best equipment and working environment to assist their careers and potentially go on to become world class champions. It is only normal therefore that we should give the winner of this year’s PEUGEOT SPORT 208 Rally Cup, the absolute benchmark when it comes to single-make rally series, a programme for next season behind the wheel of a C3R5 – our most recent and most accomplished R5-class contender – in the colours of CITROËN RACING.”

Sébastien LOEB (Driver, PEUGEOT SPORT and CITROËN RACING):
“Being spotted in a single-make championship and winning a factory-backed programme is the ideal opening for any young driver to prove their ability and learn in the best conditions possible. I know what I’m talking about because I have spent my entire career driving either PEUGEOTs and CITROËNs and that’s clearly what allowed me to get to where I am today!”
